Be Careful When Choosing a Work-from-Home Data Entry Job

Among the most frequently advertised types of Internet jobs you'll see are the "work-from-home data entry" jobs. You see them all the time in your spam box, no doubt. The idea of making $300 to $500 a day is appealing-especially for minimal time and effort. It sounds too good to be true, doesn't it? That's because it is.

Real work-from-home data entry work exists, it's true. The problem is that you'll never find work in this niche that will pay that kind of money for that little time invested. As with any field, you get paid relative to your skill level and your level of commitment.

The pay for real at-home data entry is quite modest for that reason. It doesn't take a lot of skill to type what you see. With the real opportunities, there will be real skill criteria that you will have to meet. Typing speed comes immediately to mind.

You will also probably have to learn how to use a new computer program. Many data entry jobs use specialized software to interface with their databases. For instance, if you're smart enough to avoid the scams and get a medical billing and coding job, you will have to learn how to use a coding program like Americana to enter the data. You will also have to learn reporting procedures for state Medicaid systems.

Beyond that, don't think for a second that you can throw away your alarm clock with any online work opportunity. Get the idea out of your head that you can just plink away for a couple of hours and expect to really see the money coming in. Invest in a copy of Stephen Pressfield's War of Art before considering taking on at-home opportunities. Just because you can set your own schedule doesn't mean that you can slack off and get away with it.
