Vancouver-based Dabble DB has been letting people create sophisticated online databases for a while now. As Andrew’s post explains, they’ve been listening to their users and adding features left and right but people wanted more, they wanted pages:

Dabble Pages are our way to let core Dabble users support satellite users. Rather than clutter up the core application with complicated access control or user interface configuration, we decided to let core users build out interface for satellite users, exposing exactly what is necessary. Super Cheap ditches data entry

LAST year, when Super Cheap Auto Group diversified from automotive products into boating, camping and fishing gear, its finance staff were close to breaking point because of an archaic invoicing process.

The retailer stocks more than 10,000 items and was receiving some 45,000 invoices a month, which had to be manually entered into the database.

While this was causing problems for the business, finance manager Stephen Fleming says it wasn't until the group started rolling out its boating, camping and fishing outlets in early 2006 that it decided it was time for a change.

The venerable keyboard may be obsolete, according to Kannuu Inc. (Dallas), which will demonstrate a one-thumb text-entry technique in San Diego today. By using smart software that anticipates the words being sought by users, the Kannuu data-entry method is said to enable a user of any device that has a screen and a four-way dial to input text with one thumb at speeds rivaling full-keyboard text entry.

"Kannuu enables quick and easy text entry with any device that has a screen and the ability to perform up, down, left, right and center selections--like a TiVo, TV remote, set-top box or game controller, or even devices with no buttons at all, like an iPhone," said Kannuu chief executive officer Sean-Michael Daley.

NADRA to start data entry training

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) will initiate a data entry training programme in all major cities after eid, NADRA sourced told Daily Times on Saturday.

They said the programme would be started from October 19. The authority initially started the programme in nine cities in March, but after the project succeeded NADRA had decided to start it in other cities, they added. They said the project would help the youth improve the data entry speed in Urdu and English. NADRA had set intermediate as maximum qualification for the admission in the training programme, they said, adding that NADRA would charge Rs 600 for the course. They also said the programme would be completed in a month.
